We are elated to announce that our family is growing! Baby #2 is on the way! We couldn’t be happier or more excited for this next (GIANT) step in our parenthood journey. This little lad or lady, whom we call Sprout, will arrive mid-March. Like Arco, we’ve decided to wait and find out Sprout’s gender until the big day.

In every ultrasound we’ve done to date, Sprout has shown us his/her legs first. Arco was quick to show us his arms and hands, but this little one is all about the legs.

We are 23 weeks along and thankfully, I am feeling great. No nausea, pain, cramping or low energy levels for this Mama! I feel blessed and very fortunate to have missed out on these symptoms and am hoping these good feelings continue.

Other Details: I haven’t had many cravings, although any dish with shrimp and those more savory foods are my jam. Hummus, peanut butter, avocado toast with hemp seeds and sea salt, sautéed vegetables and tofu scrambles have been quick go-tos. Of course,  homemade cookies always sound good.

Physically, I’ve been trying to maintain a good workout routine, too. I trained for and ran a half marathon at 13 weeks. I’ve definitely tapered my running since then, but attempt to get out each week for a mile or three here and there.

Yesterday, we took the whole family, Chossy included, on a jog around town. This is our second year racing in the Turkey Trot and we love it. In fact, we’re thinking it will become a family Thanksgiving tradition of ours.

I’ve also experimented with prenatal yoga and a weight circuit routine, albeit, rather lightly and intermittently. With fresh snow in Hailey, I’m also eager to catch the breeze on some cross country trails. We will see how I feel as my pregnancy progresses, but I’d love to get out there and ski; another excellent avenue to spend time outdoors with the family and satisfy my cravings for exercise.

Nursery Updates: You may be wondering where Sprout’s nursery will go or whether our beloved climbing room (the DOP) will see it’s demise. For now, we’ve decided to have Arco and Sprout share a room. I know, I know. This could be a horrible idea, but we’re willing to give it a try. Calling all parents: have you done this and were you successful? Any tips for us? Any specific dos and don’ts?

We plan to outfit the room accordingly: extra closet shelving, more hangers, another book shelf and a bed for Sprout. We plan to build a crib-like bed on Arco’s desk. Here, Sprout will sleep until he/she is sitting up and is more mobile (nursery photos to come).

Assuming both Arco and Sprout are amenable to sleeping in the same room, we will slowly transition Arco out of his crib and into Sprout’s bed. We will augment Sprout’s bed to act more as a big boy bunk bed, ladder included. Sprout will then assume said crib.

This could work or it could be a total disaster. If it doesn’t work, we have the summer to visualize, develop and initiate Plan B. For now, we’re hopeful. We’re crossing our fingers and toes that Arco and Sprout will love sharing a room and will always, always want to share a room 😉.

  1. Congratulations on Numero Dos! Owen and Ollie share a room and it mostly works. We’ve tossed Owen into the guest room a number of times when Ollie was having a sleep regression. He slept in the bassinet in our bedroom until about 6 months, but always napped in his crib. We set up a twin bed in their room when I was pregnant, to get Owen thinking about it (we didn’t want him to associate a new sibling with losing his bed) but he instantly decided he wanted to sleep there so that made it easy! And Owen had already dropped naps, so I didn’t have to worry about nap overlap in a shared room. Shane still takes Ollie back to their room for books and bed, while Owen and I read in the living room, and Owen falls asleep next to me, and we move him back to his bed once Ollie is out. Hopefully we’ll get to the point where we can do books and bedtime together, but right now I think they’d still have too much fun, staying up late, whispering secrets and jokes 😉 It’s tight (space wise) but they love getting into early morning hijinks together and I think they’re really comforted, knowing they have each other there. I bet your kiddos will love it!
