After missing out last year, Robyn and I snagged a garden plot for the summer. We have really enjoyed it so far. Planning, weeding and fixing up our plots for the season as well as saving a few lingering plants that remained from last year.

First order of business was cleaning up! This took a good portion of the afternoon. Weeding, turning the soil and adding compost and top soil again to round things out. One of the big bonuses for us is the communal tool shed, top soil and everything else that we could need for our garden, even seeds!

This is a cool idea. So you can cut green onions down just above the bulb and put them in water to regrow. In two weeks, you have another onion to enjoy. This can repeat 2-3 times each before they need to be replanted in the ground. You can even take one from the grocery store and do this. Works with lettuce too!

Phew! Another day of work and now we have everything ready to be planted. Also transplanted most of the onions from the jars into the dirt there in the corner with a chive that was left over from last year. Lookin good!

Transplanted the green onions into a couple nice rows. We have a few more to plant if there is room.

Although the spring rains don't help the climbing, they do create an amazing heavy fragrance from all the blooming lilacs.

Our garden is now all planted aside from the basil and tomatoes which we should put in a couple weeks from now. Altogether we have carrots, chard, spinach, sugar snap peas, chives, green onions, basil, and two kinds of tomatoes. And now we wait!

    1. Agreed. Feels so good even to just cut a few pieces of chives.
